It's worth watching . The kids mostly behave smartly, except when they inexplicably leave a certain character behind over and over again—“He’ll be fine!”—and unlike the characters in most teen horror flicks, I didn’t want them all to die horribly. Not only that, the characters slowly get stupider as the movie progresses, and the movie ends on a note that seems quite unbelievable considering only a few days have passed since things started to go wrong.
The replaced plots provoked only laughter and derision among humans and the invasion was an abysmal failure. I liked it since it had that classic teen horror feel to it.

I’m still waiting for the definitive 21st Century retelling of the familiar body snatchers story, but until then, we could do much worse than Assimilate. There's nothing wrong with creating a derivative film or re-imagining or remaking an old title, but to do so without an ounce of originality is beyond disappointing.
It's basically Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it's well done. If you haven't seen the originals, do yourself a favor before watching this tripe and watch them before attempting to review this film. The aliens' plan was fiendishly clever, to gradually assimilate all movie plots and replace them with identical clones. I was on the edge of my chair for much of the movie. Or watch The Invasion. Zach and Kayla found Joey at the cabin and knowing actually entire world already taken by alien! It's very much a humble film, and that's rare.

Maybe the fact that I haven't seen the Invasion of the Body Snatchers since I was a kid and never have seen the '07 remake (this isnt the type of story I gravitate to usually) make it easier for me to like this one.

This film certainly feels like a smaller story than the novel or the first three film adaptations, but it’s worlds better than the horrible 2007 studio adaptation, The Invasion. I wish they would have used Cam Gigandet more in this movie, I think he was the best part of it. Directed by John Murlowski. The movie feels really slow, tired, old-fashioned, and at times really dull despite a few modern elements thrown in like the Internet. It seems to me that when I am set up to believe a movie is probably going to be a not-so-great experience, I wind up liking it. Zach is also in love with Kayla, a Lacrosse playing girl who is friends with Zach. but.... its better. This movie does some things differently. That's certainly true, though I would like to add that this movie also cribs a few elements from the official 1978 remake. Assimilate, for better or worse, is happy to be around. Directed by John Murlowski. Actually, I wouldn't have really minded this plagiarism had this production thrown in a good amount of fresh elements and some energetic direction. That's not saying that it's horrible or unwatchable, just completely forgettable. We know life happens, so if something comes up, you can return or exchange your tickets up until the posted showtime. anyway, this is an awesome some take on a theme. Only the two main boys were decent actors, the rest of the cast were awful. In Assimilate, the young woman is Kat McNamara of Shadowhunters and Arrow fame. I love the original novel from 1955—The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney—and the 1956, 1978, and 1993 film adaptations (see my review of all of them here), so of course my attention was drawn to the new movie Assimilate that launched on VOD and Digital HD and in select theaters on Friday, May 24, 2019. There are so many things wrong with movie it would take pages to point out. The actors don’t commit, don’t get across terror, panic, paranoia or rage.
