Bong Joon-ho, the sui generis South Korean auteur behind unclassifiable modern wonders like “Barking Dogs Never Bite” and “The Host,” has always made films that refuse to fit the narrow parameters of any particular genre. Bong Joon Ho nous offre une leçon de cinéma avec un thème qu’il apprécie, la lutte des classes. Characters go from place to place without any sense of cause and effect, while the screenplay ignores blatant conflicts until the running time is long enough. Min and Mr. Park are both seen as powerful figures deserving of respect, and the way they dismissively respond to an earnest question about whether they truly care for the people they're supposed to tells us a lot about how powerful people think about not just the people below them, but everyone in their lives.
If you find that sort of stuff interesting, why not? An all-round excellent film.

It rules that Bong Joon-Ho anticipates you anticipating a twist where the rich family is smarter than they appear and then pulls the rug out from under you to reveal that they’re actually even dumber and more casually cruel than you originally thought.
