What’s not to love?

Notice the washed-out colors on the ultra-wide, and lack of fine detail/low focal length on the macro. But if you have one of these older phones, you may be getting to the point where an upgrade is finally on the table, and if you are still holding onto an old Pixel (or even Nexus) phone, the Pixel 4a is probably the best phone to come around in years to get you to pull the trigger.

However, you will lose IP68 water protection and the ultra-wide front camera. On top of all the advantages listed above, performance should be noticeably better, and the Pixel 4a looks much more modern than the smaller Pixel 2.

We were already big fans of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL’s displays, and the Pixel 4 and 4 XL take things to the next level. The Google Pixel 4 launched in October 2019 and is widely available from £669 for the smaller version of this phone; the larger Pixel 4 XL costs from £829. This was also an issue with the Pixel 3 line, but many people had performance issues with the Pixel 2 as well. The Pixel 4a's battery is also larger than the battery on the smaller Pixel 2 (2,700mAh vs 3,140mAh), though not quite as big as the Pixel 2 XL's (3,520mAh).

None of these things are regressions, but they don’t represent as much progress as many of us may have hoped Google would bring with the Pixel 4.
