There are some wonderful colour plates showing both Joe, his friends, the routes and some key figures from climbing history. I liked the incorporation of history and philosophy along with a first class adventure. Simpson brings us into his inner world, and allows us to share in the feelings and thoughts of a mountaineer nearing the end of his career.
